A message from Ashley’s family

Ashley’s family sadly wishes to inform her readers that she passed away on October 9th. She could no longer bear the suffering she was experiencing …

A message from Ashley’s family

Many people with mental illness or friends and family of those with mental illness, found their way to Ashley’s blog (Mental Health @ Home) at some point or another along their journey.

My heart was very grieved this morning when I read this post from her family explaining that she took her life after succumbing to her depression. My soul just aches that someone who had helped so many over the years and was truly a shining light, felt the heaviness of depression was too much to handle and gave up the fight.

Ashley often commented words of wisdom or even just support on many of my own posts. I looked forward to her opinions and her regular blog posts, book reviews, and even her psychiatric definition explanations.

I had often wished she would read my posts about how I found comfort in my faith in Jesus and it would peak her curiosity as to if perhaps such things might help her as well. Not that faith cures depression, because it doesn’t, but faith makes the weight of depression more bearable to know that Jesus cares for you and shares in the burdens of your pain.

“Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.”
‭‭1 Peter‬ ‭5‬:‭7‬ ‭NIV‬‬
“The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.”
‭‭Psalms‬ ‭34‬:‭18‬ ‭NIV‬‬

I will keep her family in my prayers and I hope you all will do the same. The loss of someone from suicide is a devastating experience, especially a child. I pray they perhaps think to look to the Lord for comfort for their pain. I pray her death does not take too heavy a toll on those who cared about her, her friends and those who followed her blog.

If anyone is upset by her death and needs someone to talk to, please reach out. I will always be here to listen and try to help if I can.

I found the link to Ashley’s obituary was broken in her family’s post, so I searched it and found a replacement link for those who would like to read it here.
